Fourth Fundraising Event

April 18, 2014

Lending Hope Foundation’s Fourth Gala Dinner Event took place on April 18, 2014 at the Samuel Oschin Space Shuttle Endeavour Pavilion at the California Science Center in Los Angeles.

Under the spectacular site of the Endeavour, our guests were able to enjoy an up-close and intimate evening enjoying the site, music and Peruvian food.

Gino Gamboa, a Peruvian master percussionist, welcomed us with Afro-Peruvian music by his ensemble featuring Cajon, Djembe, Conga, Bongos and other percussion instruments, while our guests walked through the exhibits and silent auction items.

We were so fortunate to have Wesley Ru, an accomplished businessman and successful entrepreneur as our MC for the evening. Mr. Ru has owned nine companies in a span of a decade and was the first Asian-American President of the Santa Barbara Polo Club. This is just naming one of the numerous professional associations and appointments he is involved with. His charisma and charm engaged the audience and kept us entertained throughout the evening.

Special thanks to Tony Chan and Helene Ly for making the arrangement to have Boy Scout Troop 329 for the Flag Ceremony to commence the program. Troop 329 performed their Flag Ceremony beautifully.

We had the honor of having the presence of Congresswoman Judy Chu who presented the Outstanding Achievement Awards to:

  • Mr. Luis Castañeda Lossio – Lifetime Achievement Award - Mayor of the City of Lima from 2003 to 2010 and potential future Mayor of Lima 2015.
  • Mr. Percy Céspedez – Outstanding Music Achievement Award. – Winner of four MTV Awards and 2 Nominations for Grammy for best Latin Producer and Director of Audio Visual Clips.

To all our volunteers and Directors, there are no words to express the gratitude for all the hard work you have put into planning, setting up and working tirelessly throughout the whole process.

Most importantly, thank you all who joined us in this special evening and all of you who were not able to attend but still sent in contributions to help our cause to End Poverty through Education and Capital!

AMERICA TANG

Imagine

Artists recorded the hymn “Imagine” for Mundo Feliz.

Lima.  Renown national artists like Sandra Muente, Jaime Cuadra, Monica Gastelumendi, Julie Freundt, Jean Paul Strauss, Julio Andrade, Melissa Miro Quesada and Pepe Alva have recorded the classic song “Imagine” from John Lennon in Spanish with Marc Ellis, Hollywood musical producer.  “Imagine” in Spanish will be the hymn for Mundo Feliz, founded by Gian Piero Mubarak.

This hymn was recorded in the Studios of Elias Ponce for, as mentioned before, Mundo Feliz, who seeks the social inclusion of young people with special skills and aptitudes through art. This would not be possible without the support of a Peruvian, America Tang, President of Lending Hope Foundation who is considered one of the 100 successful business women in the United States.

For those who do not know the background of the people responsible for this project made reality; Marc Ellis, is a Hollywood musical producer who has worked with large music projects with great talents such as Barbra Streisand, Frank Sinatra, U2, Adam Sandler and in several Universal Studios and Disney movies like “Sabrina”, “The Teenage Witch”, “Flash Gordon”, “The Archie Show”, among others.

On another hand, America Tang, was born in Lima, Peru. She studied at the Autonomous University of Madrid, Spain and California State University in Los Angeles, California, specializing in International Business. She currently is the CEO of Ace Fence Company, a construction company in the City of Industry, California, which manufactures and installs fences and iron fences for public works.

Last, but not least, Gian Piero Mubarak, is the creator of Mundo Feliz, a movement of young people of special skills and aptitudes, who at a young age was on TV shows such as “Travesuras del Corazon”, “Pobre Diabla” and worked with directors like Lucho Llosa and Augusto Tamayo; series with Michelle Alexander in “Yuru la Princesa de la Selva”, among others; and currently is the Institutional Image Director for Lending Hope Peru.

Mundo Feliz

Mundo Feliz is a non-profit organization founded by Gian Piero Mubarak Lonetti in Lima, Peru and sponsored by Lending Hope Foundation. Mundo Feliz supports handicapped children in Peru. It helps in the development and improvement of their quality of lives by bringing out and promoting the child’s own hidden talents through art, music, theatre. A group of children from Mundo Feliz participated in the Gran Show of Gisela Valcarcel. Gisela Valcarcel is the director of the Peruvian hit TV shows; Bailando por un Sueño (Dancing for a Dream); el Gran Show (The Great Show); and el Show de los Sueños y Reyes de la Pista (The Show of Dreams and Ring Kings).

In September 2010 Mundo Feliz took a group of more than 30 people (20 special needs kids and 10 parents) to an outing at Huachipa, a local zoo and then continued to visit another amusement park called Coney Park. The kids enjoyed visiting the animals, taking the rides and having some snacks at the parks. Some of the children suffer from mental retardation, Down syndrome, psychosocial problems, Asperger syndrome, autism, schizophrenia, Tourette syndrome, Osteogenesis imperfecta or Lobstein syndrome, etc. Click here to see some photos of their adventure!

Lending Hope and Mundo Feliz have now joined forces in this wonderful journey of helping other less fortunate people have a better life.

First Fundraising Event Successful

Lending Hope Foundation (LHF) had its first introductory gala dinner event on May 21, 2010 in Los Angeles, California. The event took place at the Royal Palace Banquet Hall in Glendale, California. Peter Marshall, legendary game show host, was our Evening Host; Q'Orianka Kilcher, Actress, was the Honorary Event Chairperson; Marc Ellis of Mooncrest Studios, Music Producer, made the welcoming remarks. A special humanitarian recognition was awarded to Dr. Ralph Kuon, Thoracic and Cardiovascular Surgeon, who is involved in numerous charitable medical missions in Peru. America Tang, President and Founder of LHF presented LHF and regaled our guests with her soothing voice by singing a few of her favorite songs. Congresswoman Judy Chu of the United States House of Representatives, 32nd Congressional District presented Lending Hope Foundation with a Certificate of Congressional Recognition for the extraordinary achievements in its mission to eradicate poverty through education and capital. Council Member David Lau from the City of Monterey Park and Assemblyman Mike Eng, from the 49th District sent us their Congratulations in their own Certificates of Appreciation. Also in attendance were many local business owners, friends and family members, totaling approximately 250 guests.

It was a fun filled evening with a full course dinner, unforgettable songs performed by Peter Marshall and America Tang, video presentation of LHF, silent auction, raffles and casino games. There was a happy mood and positive vibe that filled the banquet hall that evening as the attendees engaged with one another and enjoyed the evening. This positive vibe of sharing and giving contributed to LHF's objective to raising funds for our business workshops and micro-loans. LHF raised a net $19,000 that evening. Although short of the goal amount needed to fund the upcoming business workshop in July of 2010 in San Luis, Lima, Peru; the event was a successful and memorable one for all who participated. On behalf of Lending Hope and all the families in San Luis who will benefit from your generosity, we want to thank all our supporters, family and friends and hope that with your help, Lending Hope can continue impacting lives with sustainable and permanent improvements for years to come.
